This article explains a few approaches for proper layer scaling up or down.

These instructions focus on Adobe Photoshop CC version 20.0.4 or newer.

Most methods also work with older versions of Photoshop, but the steps might differ slightly.

One option is to freely adjust the size up or down with the Free Transform tool.

If you don’t seethe Tools menu,selectWindow>Tools.

In theLayerswindow, snag the one you want to adjust.

If you don’t see this view, selectWindow>Layers,or pressF7.

Next, go to theEditmenu and selectFree Transform.

Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcutCommand+T(Mac) orCtrl+T(Windows).

Or, hover outside the box and drag the arrow icon clockwise or counterclockwise to rotate the image.

To avoid image distortion, press and holdShiftwhile adjusting an image’s scale.

Once you’re done resizing the layer, pressEnterto store your changes.

On the layer you want to adjust, select theMovetool from the toolbar.

Next, select thegearicon in theOptionsmenu >Show Transform Controls.

SelectEdit>Free Transformand find theWandHfields in the top menu.

type your preferred values to scale the image accordingly.

Right-click inside theWorHfields to change the value to pixels, inches, centimeters, etc.

Click thecheck markin theOptionsbar or pressEnter.

To undo resizing actions, pressCtrl+Z(orCMD+Z) orCtrl+Alt+Z(orCMD+Alt+Z) to undo several steps.
