Like a Dragon: Yakuzaaims to be Prime Video’s next big live-action video game adaptation.
It will stream in over 240 countries and territories.
But it’s not the first time the title has spawned an adaptation.
Read on to find out all the details about Prime Video’s upcoming action drama.
What is Like a Dragon: Yakuza about?
“We were able to dig deeper into the emotion aspects probably more so than in the game.”
Who stars in Like a Dragon: Yakuza?
Ryoma Takeuchi (Kamen Rider Drive) plays Kazuma Kiryu.
House of Ninjas star Kentu Kako plays crime boss Akira Nishikiyama.
Kaku was drawn to Nishiki because of the character’s emotional depth and evolution in the series.
“He has just about every emotion that one human being can have.”
Takeuchi acknowledged Kazuma’s compassion as the personality trait that most appealed to him.
“Kiryu is very hard on the outside but very soft on the inside,” he said.
He wants to help people – instead of hurting them.
“I think he is a guy who wants to stand up for people,” Takeuchi said.
“Trying to be a hero is one of his goals in life.
And I think this drama embodies that.”
I think the contrast is really important.
How will Like a Dragon: Yakuza differ from the video games?
Kaku explained that Take directed the actors to find their characters organically through creative exploration.
“Because you have to embody your own character in your own way.
That might be the most surprising element of the show.”
