Is it finally time to say goodbye?

But USB was still a lot better than many of the ports it replaced.

But its time is up.
But in every other way, USB-C is superior.
It goes in either way, so you might plug it in without really even looking.

And once it’s plugged in, it stays in.

Apple has always been happy to ditch connectors early.
In that original iMac, it replacedeverythingwith USB.
But it’s not so easy.
Back in 1998, when Apple replaced mouse and keyboard ports with USB, the world was quite different.
Smartphones weren’t a thing, and we didn’t have a zillion gadgets that we had to recharge.
More likely is that Apple just doesn’t want to bother any more.
USB-C is smaller, and it’s simpler to include just one kind of port.
