Evernote has a Free version and a Personal subscription.
The only real limitation of the free account is the size of the file you upload.
In Evernote, at the bottom left of your iPhone, tapCreate.
In the menu that appears, towards the bottom, selectAudio.
If prompted, chooseAllowso that Evernote may use your microphone.
You should see a red bar at the top with your recording progress.
Once your iPhone voice memo appears, selectTranscribe.
You’ll see the transcribed voice memo below the recording.
Evernote doesn’t support transcribing the M4A format in the Apple Voice Memo app.
Its transcription features are relatively easy, but you may need to buy credits to use all of them.
TapAllowwhen Rev asks for microphone access.
Rev will transcribe as you speak.
TapStop/Savewhen you’ve finished recording your voice memo.
On the Save Recording screen, tapSave and Transcribe.
On the Transcribe screen, select betweenHuman TranscriptionorAI Transcription.
If you don’t have credits loaded, you will be prompted toAdd Creditsto complete the transcription.
Using Rev to Transcribe Existing Audio
Some of the steps are very similar to transcribing new audio.
See the differences in the process below:
TapUpload media.
grab the recording from your iPhone that you wish to transcribe.
The audio file should appear in the Recordings screen.
On the Transcribe screen, select betweenHuman TranscriptionorAI Transcription.
If you don’t have credits loaded, you will get a prompt toAdd Creditsto complete the transcription.
The controls are fairly straightforward for creating a new transcribed voice memo or importing pre-recorded audio.
When prompted, chooseAllowto let Aiko use your iPhone’s microphone.
A red microphone appears on the screen while it’s recording.
To stop or pause, choosePauseat the bottom of the screen.
Aiko will begin transcribing your audio.
You may stop it at any time by tapping theStopbutton (purple square) at the top right corner.
When complete, transcribed audio will appear on the screen.
To save transcribed audio, chooseShareat the bottom of the screen.
Using Aiko to Transcribe Pre-recorded Audio
Aiko also supports transcribing previously recorded audio.
Here’s how to transcribe pre-recorded voice memos on your iPhone with Aiko.
Open an audio file when you first open Aiko by tappingOpen.
Alternatively, tap the+(plus sign) and selectImport File.
Choose the audio file to be transcribed.
Aiko has a handy Search feature for looking through voice memos transcribed on your iPhone.
Just look for the magnifying glass at the bottom of the Aiko interface.
This feature requires the primary language to be set to English (US) or English (Canada).
Even though its still in beta, Live Caption shows some promise for an iPhone transcription tool.
While subject to change, the basic functionality should remain the same.
