Information in this article applies to the official Sony DualShock 4 controller for PS4.

In the Steam client window, selectSteam>Check for Steam Client Updates.

If there are available updates, download and drop in the updates, then wait for Steam to restart.

In the Steam client window, select Steam > Check for Steam Client Updates.

Plug the PS4 controller into a USB port on your PC.

On a Mac, selectSteam>Preferences.

SelectController, then selectGeneral Controller controls.

Select View > Settings.

Select thePlayStation Configuration Supportcheck box.

The DSWindows driver works by tricking the computer into thinking the PS4’s DualShock controller is an Xbox controller.

Open a web web client, go tods4windows.com, and selectDownload Now.

Select your PS4 controller under Detected Controllers, then select Preferences.

This takes you to GitHub with a listing of the latest drivers.

Open thezip fileand move the files from the zip file to your PC.

If nothing happens when you go for the file,kickstart your computerand open it again.

Adjust the PS4 controller settings and select Submit.

SelectAppdatain the pop-up window.

If prompted to give DSWindows.exe permission to make changes to your gear, selectYes.

The driver installs automatically, and the controller is ready to use.

Go to ds4windows.com and select Download Now.

A menu opens where you’ve got the option to adjust the PS4 controller configs.

OpenDS4Windows.exeany time to access this menu.

On Windows 7 or an earlier version, you’re prompted to install support for Xbox 360 controllers.

Select DS4Windows.zip to download it.

If you experience any problems, reboot the computer.

Sometimes this may be needed for Windows to detect the driver and the controller properly.

How to Connect Your PS4 Controller Wirelessly

Sony sells aBluetoothadapter for connecting PS4 controllers to PCs.

Open the zip file and move the files inside onto your PC.

Put the controller in discovery mode by holding down theSharebutton and thePlayStationbutton until the light blinks.

Open theWindows Bluetooth settingsand selectAdd Bluetooth or other equipment.

Steam can sometimes cause problems by intercepting the Bluetooth signal.

Open the DS4Windows.exe file.

Exit Steam when playing non-Steam games.

Just plug in the PS4 controller using the same USB cable that connects it to the PS4.

Put the controller in discovery mode by holding down theSharebutton and thePlayStation buttonuntil the controller light starts blinking.

Select Appdata in the pop-up window.

When you seeWireless Controllerin the Bluetooth menu, selectPair.

No extra drivers are required to use the DualShock 4, so there is no DS4 for Mac.

A menu will open where you can adjust the PS4 controller settings.

Open the Windows Bluetooth settings and select Add Bluetooth or other device.

Select Wireless Controller.

Select Bluetooth.
