Instructions apply to macOS Big Sur (11.0) through OS X Tiger (10.4).
The simplest way to turn off VoiceOver involves a two-button keyboard shortcut.
TheCommand+F5shortcut also switches VoiceOver back on.
So, if you press it again by mistake, you reactivate the feature.
If your Mac has Touch ID, pressCommandwhile quickly tapping Touch ID three times.
Use this sequence to turn VoiceOver off or on.
It may take longer, but it’s necessary if you ever turned off theCommand+F5shortcut.
Here’s what you do.
Click theApple logoin the upper-left corner of the screen.
SelectSystem Preferencesfrom the drop-down menu and clickAccessibilityin the System Preferences window.
SelectVoiceOverin the left pane.
Alternatively, pressOption+Command+F5to reveal a shortcuts dialog box.
UseTabto toggle through the options.
Click theApple logoin the upper-left corner of the screen and clickSystem Preferences.
SelectKeyboardin the System Preferences window.
ClickAccessibilityin the left pane.
Then choose the check box next toTurn VoiceOver on or offto reactivate the shortcut.
Make a request such as, “Turn VoiceOver off.”
