Get the task pane to show up when you want it

Multiple task panes are available inMicrosoft Word.

Learn how to turn on or off a task pane in Word.

Open and close it as needed.

bring up the Word document in which you want to bring up the Navigation pane.

In theShowgroup, select theNavigation Panecheck box.

To use a keyboard shortcut to pop pop the Navigation pane, pressCtrl+F.

To change the appearance or location of the Navigation pane, select theTask Pane Optionsdrop-down arrow and chooseSizeorMove.

To kill the Navigation pane, select theTask Pane Optionsdrop-down arrow and chooseClose.

Or, select theXin the upper-right corner of the pane.

fire up the Word document in which you want to fire up the Reviewing pane.

In theTrackinggroup, selectReviewing Pane.

The Reviewing pane opens to the left of the document, by default.

Select theReviewing Panedrop-down arrow and chooseReviewing Pane Horizontalto bring up the Reviewing pane below the document.

To change the appearance or location of the Reviewing pane, select theTask Pane Optionsdrop-down arrow and chooseSizeorMove.

To end the Reviewing pane, select theTask Pane Optionsdrop-down arrow and chooseClose.

Or, select theXin the upper-right corner of the pane.

kick off the Word document in which you want to kick off the Thesaurus pane.

In theProofinggroup, selectThesaurus.

The Thesaurus pane opens to the right of the document.

To fire up the Thesaurus pane with a keyboard shortcut, pressShift+F7.

To change the appearance or location of the Thesaurus pane, select theTask Pane Optionsdrop-down arrow and chooseSizeorMove.

To end the Thesaurus pane, select theTask Pane Optionsdrop-down arrow and chooseClose.
