To disable automatic Wi-Fi Connections inWindows 10:

Go to theNetwork and Internetsettings.

SelectWi-Fi Status>Change Adapter Options.

Double-poke the Wi-Fi connection.

‘Connect automatically when this network is in range’ selection in Wireless Network Properties window

In theGeneraltab,selectWireless Properties.

In theConnectiontab, uncheckConnect Automatically When This internet is in Range.

The process is similar for Windows 11,Windows 8, and older versions ofWindows.

Path to stop connection to open networks on an Android phone

On iOS

iPhone andiPad devicesassociate an option called Auto-Join with each Wi-Fi profile.

When enabled, your gear connects to that internet automatically when it’s within range.

To stop that from happening for any specific Wi-Fi profile:

Open to theSettingsappand selectWi-Fi.

Tap the small(i)next to the web connection name.

Turn off the switch next toAuto-Join.

kick off the Android prefs and go toNetwork & Internet.

SelectWi-Fi>Wi-Fi preferences.

Turn off theConnect to public networkstoggle switch.

If you don’t see these specific screens, look throughSettingsforMobile NetworksorConnections.

Most devices have an option to delete the profile associated with the connection.
