Here’s how it works.
Visithttps://m.youtube.comin Chrome and initiate the video you want to watch.
Switch to desktop mode by tapping thethree dotsin the corner of the app and choosingDesktop site.

Once the site refreshes, press thestart buttonto play the video.
Switch apps or return to the Home screen.
Playback will pause (this is normal).
Swipe down from the top of the screen.
You should see the media player.
Pressplayto resume the video.
In our tests, we had to be quick to resume the video or the playback controls would disappear.
Here’s how to use PiP to play YouTube videos in the background.
PiP mode for videos that contain music content is only available for YouTube Premium members.
You must also have the latest version of YouTube installed on your gear.
OpenSettingson your smartphone or tablet.
Scroll through the list of apps and tapYouTubewhen you see it.
SelectPicture-in-pictureat the bottom and then switch the toggle on to enable it.
To use PiP, start playing a video within the YouTube app, and then press thehome button.
It will continue to play as you open other apps.

Picture in Picture also works on iPhone.
Here’s what to do if it doesn’t work right away:
Play the videothrough the YouTube app.
Return to the Home Screento force the app into Picture in Picture mode.
You should see a small version of the video floating above your other apps.
The video should pause automatically.
With Control Center still open, use the playback controls there toresume the video.
The YouTube video should now be playing in the background.

The top of your search bar will sayhttps://m.youtube.com.
Once it starts, switch to another app or lock your unit.
The video will stop.
Sometimes iOS defaults the media player to your music library in the music player, rather than the video.
Once the title of your video shows up in Control Center, pressplayto let the video play.
Put your phone back into sleep mode, or switch apps, and the video will continue to play.
YouTube offers two subscription services.
YouTube Premium allows you to play videos in the background and comes with access to original video content.
YouTube Music is a music streaming service that can make YouTube play in the background.
YouTube Music is a few dollars cheaper than Premium.
An alternative is todownload the videosto your gadget and avoid the YouTube app altogether.
Find the video you want and tapDownload.
If you don’t have a subscription, you’re able to use a third-party app.
Toplay a YouTube video in a loop, open YouTube in a web surfing app.
Right-click or long-press the video and selectLoop.
