Scan the computer for malware.

Scan your box for viruses and other malware and then attempt the update or installation again.
trigger the Windows Update Troubleshooter.
When the Troubleshooter concludes,restart the computerandcheck for updates.
trigger the built-in Windows troubleshooter.
Windows 10 includes several automatic troubleshooters, which are available in theUpdate & Securitysection of Windows parameters.
One of these options specifically addresses Windows Updates errors.
spin up the System File Checker scan.
This Windows tool scans all protected system files.
If it finds any corrupted or incorrect versions, it replaces the files with the correct Microsoft versions.
When the scan is complete, note whether it found and fixed any problems.
If it did, reboot the computer and check for updates again.
Perform a DISM scan.
Deployment Image Servicing and Management is acommand-linetool that finds and repairs files or system-image corruptions.
After running the tool, restart the computer and venture to update it once more.
Remove the pending.xml file.
Restart Windows Update services.
Locate Windows Update service in theservices running on your computerand set the startup throw in toAutomatic.
Restart the computer, thencheck for and installany available Windows updates.
Restore, refresh, or reset the PC.
