The process below is similar across all versions of Windows, although it might vary slightly among them.
If you’re using Windows 7 or before, go toStart>Control Panel.
In Windows 11, 10, 8, and 7, selectSystem and Security.
In Windows Vista, chooseSystem and Maintenance.
In Windows XP, selectPerformance and Maintenance.
Windows XP only: Open theAdvancedtab ofSystem Properties.
A much quicker way to reach System Properties is with thesysdm.cplcommand.
Enter it in a Command Prompt window or the Run dialog box.
In theStartup and Recoverysection near the bottom of the new window, chooseSettings.
pick the box next toAutomatically restartto remove its check mark.
SelectOKto save the changes, and thenOKagain on theSystem Propertieswindow.
