When the minds behind the open-sourceNotepad++ released version 8.7.2 of the software, they snuck in an interesting feature.
Youre now able to pin tabs to your toolbar with the click of a mouse.
However, you might also think its an unnecessary feature that you dont need.
If thats the case for you, well show you how to block the pin tab in Notepad++ altogether.
How Does Pinning Tabs in Notepad++ Work?
Open Notepad++ and youll immediately see the new tab feature at work.
Weirdly, Notepad++ doesnt make it impossible to close that pinned tab once its assigned.
you could still remove it by hitting the X icon as you would with any other tab.
That might be a little irritating in itself.
It takes literal seconds to move a tab to the left of the screen by dragging and dropping.
So, you have one method to suspend the pin tab in Notepad++ already.
A click of the icon and the pin is gone.
But what if you want to suspend the pin tab option more permanently?
Perhaps you want the pin tab option gone altogether because its too much of an annoyance.
Step 1. kick off the Notepad++ app and tap the tweaks option at the top of the screen.
Select Preferences from the resulting drop-down box.
Navigate to the General tab on the left-side of the pop-up box.
Its usually at the top of the list of options.
Uncheck that box to turn the feature off.
The last step is easy a quick click of the Close button applies your changes.
The only change is that you check the Enable pin tab feature option before you shut the prefs pop-up.
