App passwords add extra security when you access Outlook external viaIMAPorPOP.

Select your name or avatar in Outlook.com’s top navigation bar, and then selectMy Microsoft Account.

Scroll down and selectUpdateunder theSecuritysection.

SelectGet Startedin theAdvanced security optionssection.

You might need to provide your email password before viewing these options.

If it isn’t enabled yet, chooseTurn onnext toTwo-step verification, and follow those steps to enable it.

Launch theSet up two-step verificationwizard by selectingNext.

For our purposes, selectCancelto move on to setting up two-step verification.

Select your gadget punch in.

Why Use Outlook App Passwords?

However, email programs that sign on toOutlook.com via POPdon’t support security codes for two-step verification.

On theAdditional security optionsscreen, you’ll now see anApp passwordssection.

SelectCreate a new app password.

UnderApp passwords, selectRemove existing app passwords.

All passwords you have set up for your Outlook.com account will be disabled.
