Here’s how to set it up:

Tap theCollectionstab at the bottom of the app.

Scroll down and chooseLocked.

TapSet up Locked Folder.

Optionally, turn on backup for the folder.

Otherwise, follow the prompt to open Locked Folder with whatever method you use for unlocking your gadget.

For example, your fingerprint or passcode.

How you get into Locked Folder is the same as how you unlock your phone as a whole.

A separate authentication method just for Google Photos is not an option.

SelectMove items, and then tap the photos and/or videos you want to move into Locked Folder.

The search tool on this page works the same way as it does elsewhere in the app.

Browse by person, locate just your selfies or screenshots, etc.

PressMovewhen you’re ready to relocate the selected items.

Confirm the prompt by selectingMoveonce more.

TapDeleteon the prompt to remove the items from your regular Google Photos library.

They now exist only in Locked Folder.

SelectDoneon the final prompt.

shut the app or back out of Locked Folder to secure the items you’ve saved there.

With the items selected, chooseMove to Locked Folder.

Android users have another option.

Just press and hold the thumbnail next to the shutter button, and then tapLocked Folder.

Once captured, the picture or video will go into this password-protected area automatically.

you could back up items in Locked Folder just like you could other Google Photos files.

Once backed up, they’re retrievable from theLocked Folder area of your accounton any computer you log into.

Locked Folder Limitations

This feature has several limitations to ensure your photos and videos remain private.

Can You Hide Albums in Google Photos?

No, Google Photos doesn’t provide a way to lock photo albums behind a password.

The only exception is if you use the Locked Folder feature.

To download a photo, initiate the photo, selectMore(three dots), and selectDownload.

To download a batch of photos, choose the ones you want to download >More>Download.

To download an entire album, launch the album and chooseMore>Download all.

Navigate to the photo and selectOpen.
