Instructions apply to Word for Microsoft 365, Word 2019, Word 2016, and Word 2013.
In theParagraphgroup, go for the dialog box launcher.
In theParagraphdialog box, select theIndents and Spacingtab.
In theIndentationsection, select theSpecialdrop-down arrow and chooseHanging.
In theBytext box, enter a positive value using quarter-inch increments.
ThePreviewsection at the bottom of the dialog box shows how the text will look.
The paragraph you selected has a hanging indent.
Place the cursor at the end of the paragraph and pressEnterto create a new paragraph with a hanging indent.
Alternatively, you could set a hanging indent using the ruler (located under the Ribbon).
If you don’t see it, go to theViewtab.
In theShowgroup, selectRuler.
pick the paragraph that will have the hanging indent.
Here’s how to create it.
Highlight one or more entries that you want to have a hanging indent.
Right-hit the highlighted text, then selectParagraph.
In theParagraphdialog box, go to theIndentationsection, select theSpecialdrop-down arrow, then chooseHanging.
In theBytext box, enter a positive number in quarter-inch increments.
The entries you selected reflect the hanging indentation.
Here’s how to do it:
fire up the document, then go to the Ribbon and selectHome.
In theStylesgroup, right-click theNormalstyle.
From the menu, chooseModify.
In theModify Styledialog box, go to theNametext box and enter a new name for the style.
Select theFormatdrop-down arrow and chooseParagraph.
In theParagraphdialog box, select theSpecialdrop-down arrow and chooseHanging.
Then, set the distance for the indentation.
SelectOKin each open dialog box to keep your changes and shut the dialog boxes.
The hanging indent is applied to all text that uses the selected style.
