Apply Conditional Formatting to Unread Messages
Here’s how to specify conditions and formatting for incoming messages.
Go to theViewtab and selectView configs.
In theAdvanced View Settingsdialog box, selectConditional Formatting.
A set of default rules appears.
In theConditional Formattingdialog box, selectAdd.
In theNametext box, enter a descriptive name for the new conditional formatting rule, such asCustom unread mail.
SelectFontto change thefont parameters.
In theFontdialog box, change theFont,Font style,Size, orColor.
In theConditional Formattingdialog box, selectCondition.
In theFilterdialog box, go to theMore Choicestab.
Select theOnly items that arecheck box and chooseUnread.

Go to your Inbox.
All unread messages now follow your new conditional formatting rule.

Open Outlook.com and selectSettings(the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the screen).
SelectView all Outlook prefs.

Enter a descriptive name for your rule.
Select theAdd a conditiondrop-down arrow and chooseApply to all messages.
Select theAdd an actiondrop-down arrow and chooseCategorize.
Then snag the category to apply to all new messages.
SelectSave, then wrap up the controls window.
Your unread messages will now appear in the color category you selected.
