The iPhone camera today is everything theLeica Iwas back in 1925.
“No one buys Leica to take pictures,“writes photographer and criticKen Rockwell.
“Leica is a lifestyle, not a brand.
Apple
Our iPhones, Canons and Nikons take much better pictures than any Leica does.
Back in 1925, the Leica I was something of a revelation.
It was much smaller than other cameras, because it used 35mm film.

Photographers no longer needed to carry a huge apparatus with a tripod.
Yet, despite this tiny “sensor,” it changed the future of photography.
The iPhone Camera
The iPhones camera is just incredible.
The iPhone and early Leica comparisons dont stop there.
Meanwhile, todays Leica is more of a lifestyle brand.
In 2000, fashion brand Hermesbought a 31.5% stake in Leica(andsold it in 2006).
And remember, this is just a box to hold a lens and a roll of film.
Technology-wise, Leica makes beautiful, competent cameras, but theyre deliberately retro.
These cameras cater to purists.
Are iPhone Photos as Good as Leica Photos?
But it doesnt matter.
The opportunity and creativity unleashed by an always-ready camera more than makes up for any quality loss.
Think of some iconic photos from the 20th century.
Few of Robert Capas images were even sharp, including hisphotograph of a soldiertaken during the Spanish Civil War.
None of those would be compromised by using an iPhone camera.
