What Do the Check Marks Mean on WhatsApp?

WhatsApp displays check marks next to everything you send to show you the status of your messages.

There are three checkmarks you might see.

Here’s what they mean:

You might instead see a clock in WhatsApp.

This means the message has not been sent or delivered and usually indicates an internet connection issue.

These same check marks also apply to group messages, but the rules are a little different.

Read and Delivered check marks in WhatsApp

Two gray check marks appear wheneveryonehas received your message, not just one recipient.

you could use a hidden menu to view the message information, which includes these timestamps.

Long-press the messageyou sent until a new menu appears at the top of the app.

Tap the(i)icon.

This screen explains when your message was delivered and when it was read.

This shows how long it took someone to read your message after their equipment received it.

Completing these steps will also prevent you from seeing when they’ve read your messages.

The only exception is group chats; read receipts are always turned on for group messages.

From there, tap thethree dotsin the corner and then chooseSettings.

SelectRead receiptsto toggle it off.

From now on, neither you nor the people you text will see the blue WhatsApp check marks.
