In the span of a month this summer, four Amazon warehouse workers have died in separate incidents.
A range of circumstances surround the deaths.
Alex Carillo, 22, died six days afteran Aug. 1 forklift crashin Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Amazon expressed condolences to all the families of the deceased.
Amazon spokesman Stephenson pointed out that the company’s warehouses have climate control.
Still, workplace safety experts say the deaths raise questions.
These are also not the first fatalities Amazon has seen in the last 12 months.
In a statement, Amazon said it reports all deaths to OSHA in accordance with the law.
In general, both fatalities and injuries are undercounted, Baker said.
But she added there needs to be more standardization in recording injuries and deaths at work.
Amazon has denied responsibility for his death.
Company spokesman Stephenson said the death “was related to a personal medical condition.”
Additionally, he said, workers who fear losing their jobs will often work through health scares.
“That is a big alarm,” Frumin said.
